Hi readers! Ok, so I got such a great response from the most simple DIY I posted last time that I thought I would post another. These gold dinosaurs are something I have seen on home decor maven Devon Rachel’s blog, adorable Amelia of Duckling to Swan, Catherine Sheppard of The Life Style (via Glitter Guide), and many other fab bloggers. It has to be the easiest DIY ever. I mean literally. You don’t need an artistic bone in your body to make this sassy desk accessory yours. Here’s the before (horrid) & after of my little DIY project 🙂 Hope you enjoy!

Just select the dinosaur of your choice at any local kid’s toy store (I got mine at a history museum down the street from my house for $10)

Set your dino on a peice of cardboard and give the heinous looking creature (dinasours freak me out) a pretty makeover with your favorite shade of gold spray paint. My favorite gold spray paint is by far Rustoleum Metallic Gold. It doesn’t look fake and it’s not too shiny or brassy. The perfect shade of gooooold (insert Austin Powers gold member voice here).

This is after one coat of spray paint. It doesn’t take much! I did one coat, let it dry for an hour (if that) and then gave him another coat.

And there you have it! You can also do this with small elephants, giraffes, and other wild animals in different places around your home. There is something about these animals that give an eclectic touch to your home. Try this out and let me know which animal you decide to give a gold makeover!

p.s. I really do hate dinasours. But I have to admit I had so much fun doing this… I think I might have to get a few different kinds and add them to my collection. Triceratops? Actually I think that’s what kind of dinosaur this one is. T-rex? Whatever the hell their names are….I may secretly be a new fan.
